Diving in Iceland — Silfra scuba, drysuit, ice, not snorkel

Silfra is about 3°C year-round. Scuba there is a drysuit dive, not the large-group snorkel sold on booking sites. Independent shops run hotel pickup from Reykjavík; most tours need 2 divers. Book by email.

Scuba or snorkel at Silfra?

Different products. Snorkel tours on booking sites do not require a drysuit certification. Scuba at Silfra does. If you hold an Open Water card and a wetsuit, you are looking at snorkel operators, not a scuba shop. If you are drysuit certified, or you will take a drysuit course first, you are looking at scuba.

Quieter than Silfra

Davíðsgjá is the other fissure in Þingvellir National Park. Same park, fewer convoys. Ask the shop when you email if you want that site instead of the crowded default.

Ice diving

Iceland shops that work year-round can schedule winter ice dives. Dates flex with weather. That is not the same SKU as a Golden Circle snorkel bus.
